Posted on

If your dog has fleas, they can quickly spread throughout your home, to other pets as well, and they can be very difficult to get rid of. If your dog has fleas, you need to take action immediately and do what you can to get rid of them quickly. Fleas can be a major nuisance and they can cause your dog to scratch so much that they end up with hot spots, skin irritation and they could also end up with other issues as well. If your dog has fleas, you need to get rid of them. Read on for what you can do if your dog ends up with a flea problem.

Give Your Dog a Flea Bath

Your dog is going to need a bath to get as many fleas off of it as possible. Flea shampoo is made to treat your dog's skin and also kill fleas that are on it's body. Remove as many fleas as you can with a flea bath. If you aren't able to give your dog a bath at home, you should take your dog to a groomer or to the veterinarian for a flea dip bath. Let local veterinary services know ahead of time that your dog has fleas and needs to have a flea dip.

Get Your Dog a Flea Collar or Flea Medication

To help protect your dog in the future from fleas, give your dog a flea collar or flea medication, whichever is best for your dog. Your dog needs to be protected from these and other pests, such as ticks. Talk to your veterinarian about what options are best for you and for your dog. Some flea collars last months, or you can use flea medication that is given to your pet monthly. You should look for something that also protects your dog from ticks as well, which can carry Lyme disease.

Bomb Your House

Use a flea bomb in your house to kill off any other fleas that may be living in your home. Flea bombs are made to kill fleas and other pests that are in your home as well. If you get rid of the fleas on your dog, but still have them in your home, you aren't doing yourself any favors. You need to remove the fleas from both your dog and your home as well to prevent a future problem.

If your dog has fleas, you need to do what you can to protect your dog from these terrible pests. Talk to your veterinarian if you are having trouble getting rid of the fleas.
